Tradition since 1895

We established our family business back in 1895 and it is now jointly managed by the third and fourth generation.

OCULUS has been a trusted partner for eye care professionals around the world. With the highest attention to detail, our devices are designed and manufactured at the OCULUS headquarters, located in Wetzlar, Germany.

Thanks to our 11 subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and America, and more than 200 distributors in over 80 countries, OCULUS is accessible to all customers around the globe.

More than 60 % of OCULUS turnover is generated within the international market. There are about 450 employees working at the OCULUS headquarters – more than 60 % of them in either research and development or production and service.

Since the construction of the logistics center in Wetzlar in 2015, the outer wall has been adorned with the world’s largest eye chart of its kind. Covering an area of 1,020 m², the chart stretches 68 meters in length and 15 meters in height. The Landolt rings depicted on it are designed according to standardized size and spacing ratios in compliance with common vision testing standards (DIN EN ISO 8596).

The largest ring has a diameter of 3.607 meters. To assess a visual acuity of 0.63 (63%), a viewing distance of 1,550 meters is required. From this distance, visual acuities of 0.8, 1.0, 1.25, 1.6, and 2.0 can also be measured using the other Landolt rings. A designated observation point was established at the precise required distance.

The RID (Record Institute for Germany) certified OCULUS with the title of “World’s Largest Eye Chart with Landolt Rings.”

With this extraordinary installation, OCULUS not only makes the topic of vision tangible, but also sets a visible sign of its innovation and commitment to precision in ophthalmic optics.
